What's the difference between acid reflux, heartburn, and GERD?

Heartburn is the uncomfortable burning sensation in the chest or throat that's caused by acid reflux, when stomach contents move up instead of down. Acid reflux is also called gastroesophageal reflux.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a more severe form of acid reflux. You can get treatment for acid reflux or GERD through Amazon One Medical On-Demand Care.

Is online acid reflux treatment right for me?

You're 18-60
You experience acid reflux symptoms like heartburn and regurgitation
You don't have complications like Barrett's esophagus or stomach ulcers
It’s not difficult or painful to swallow
You don’t have chest pain that radiates to your back, arm, or jaw*
*If you’re experiencing radiating chest pain, please call 911 or go to an emergency room (ER) as soon as possible.

Common acid reflux (GERD) treatments

Your Amazon One Medical provider will determine which (if any) acid reflux treatment is medically appropriate for you based on your symptoms and health history. If you're prescribed heartburn medication, your provider will send the prescription to your preferred pharmacy. Choose Amazon Pharmacy for free delivery and transparent Prime pricing. The cost of your prescribed medication is not included with the treatment cost and may be covered by health insurance.

Antacids
If you have mild acid reflux symptoms less than once a week, these over-the-counter medications can begin to neutralize stomach acids in 5 minutes and last up to an hour, but they don't cure GERD.
